Hi everyone. I am looking to buy my own mics for my kit. What, in your opinion, are some good mic kits to get? In all honesty I am looking decent quality at a fair or cheap price. I heard for cheap, Nady isn't too bad. Any thoughts? Please respond. Thanks

are they for recording or live? what's your budget.

i like the audix kit pack if you have some money, they give you a snare, 2 or 3 toms and a kick plus 2 condensers for $1500 canadian. i don't know what they would be in the states.

if you are on a seriously tight budget, the audio technica kit pack is great.it's 2 mics used for snare or high toms and 2 for kick or floor toms. they are basicly the same but the kick and floor toms go down to 60 hz instead of 100 hz.

i bought mine originally for $250 canadian but i think they went up in price recently. both of the kits are great because the patterns are very small, you don't get alot of bleed and they sound great.

the audix are much better but i like the audio technicas way better than 57's or 58's. both are set up to clip on the drum rims .

57s are OK for the toms and snare. Audix D series is a bit better but 57s will sound great.

The one place where you must spend a bit more IMO is on the kick mic. The latest Audix is pretty nice in this regard. Look around for a used D112 or Beta series from Shure if nothing else.

Is this for recording or live work? If recording, what are you recording onto?

I have the same question but budget isn't an issue. I have a Shure Beta 52 for my bassdrum (happily got rid off my D112) and a SM57 for my snare. I am looking for the ultimate live situation mike. Shure Beta 98D/S are great but also ElectroVoice ND468's or maybe the Audix D2 and D3's. Has anyone experience with these mikes. The big disadvantage is that Shure 98's are condensator mikes and for live maybe vulnerable. Anyone on this? Jean-Paul, the Netherlands. (HOD the Netherlands, Steve?)

Thanks for the replies. The mics in question would be purely for live work.

Beta 98s are plenty reliable for live work provided you have a board that has enough Mic ins with phantom power.

98's are the standard for live use right now, awesome mics. Some guys even use them in the studio even.

I saw a Travis Barker complete drum mic kit for about 4 bills.
